Viking Poem, by snake-eyez-the-great
In the dense grey fog
Where damp made his skin grow cold,
The warrior's eyesight clouded
And he felt a hundred years old
Not a sound could be heard
But the memory of the mournful cry
Of a Viking horn
There, where sea met sky
The solitary soldier
Who bore a burden great
Pleaded with one-eyed Odin,
"Is this to be my fate?"
But as the day dwindled
And the twilight cold did freeze
Until the sight of a longboat
Did bring him to his knees.
Running, stumbling, tripping
The warrior charged for salvation
Body unable to keep speed
With his mind's elation
He bounded towards the shore
Silent were the birds' screams
Into the fog it vanished
A mere ship of dreams
So with a final sigh
The soldier laid down his weary head
Knowing his gods do not dwell here
In this land of dark and dread
But the memory of the mournful cry
Of a Viking horn
There, where sea met sky
The solitary soldier
Who bore a burden great
Pleaded with one-eyed Odin,
"Is this to be my fate?"
But as the day dwindled
And the twilight cold did freeze
Until the sight of a longboat
Did bring him to his knees.
Running, stumbling, tripping
The warrior charged for salvation
Body unable to keep speed
With his mind's elation
He bounded towards the shore
Silent were the birds' screams
Into the fog it vanished
