fav.me/d4tf3xsThis past week, the House Republicans caved once again to their wing-nut fringe and passed a continuing resolution for funding the Federal government after October 1 that contains a provision denying funds for the implementation of Obamacare, which would provide health insurance to millions of the poor and uninsured and which would make it impossible for the health insurance industry to continue to deny coverage to people with pre-existing medical conditions. Some 50 to 129 million (19 to 50 percent of) non-elderly Americans have some type of pre-existing health condition. Up to one in five non-elderly Americans with a pre-existing condition — 25 million individuals — is uninsured. Older Americans between ages 55 and 64 are at particular risk: 48 to 86 percent of people in that age bracket have some type of pre-existing condition. And 15 to 30 percent of people in perfectly good health today are likely to develop a pre-existing condition over the next eight years, severely limiting their choices without the protections of the Affordable Care Act.
It's amazing to me that the Tea Party Caucus, composed of just 49 U.S. Congresspersons, has been able to effectively control the U.S. House of Representatives, which has 435 voting members. They lost 12 members in the 2012 elections, and our job is to defeat as many of these remaining reactionaries as possible next year. You can see a list of the members of the Tea Party Caucus and a map showing the Districts they represent here:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tea_Part…. If you happen to live in one of these Districts, now is the time to get involved and begin to work to defeat these people. If you're a Republican, find a moderate Republican to work for. If you're a Democrat, work for a Democratic challenger. If you think the two-party system sucks, you're probably right, but get over it and get to work.
It's absurd that these cretins exercise as much political clout as they do, but no one is going to change that except you and I. Game on!
